Medway Ports owns 27 navigable miles of the River Medway in Kent, from its mouth at Sheerness to the docks at Chatham and is the Port Authority for the river and its approaches.

Description

The Port of Sheerness is a natural deep water port and specialises in three main product areas - fresh produce, new vehicles and forest product. The port has several large storage areas to handle these products in addition to a former World War II fort, which is now part of the port’s control tower. The site also has a number of listed buildings, which add to the diversity of structures which can be found at Sheerness.

Chatham Dock handles in excess of 1 million tonnes of cargo a year and occupies one of three basins at the former naval dockyard. Medway Ports has a landlord role, and operates one berth itself. The dock has two locks, a workshop, and a number of industrial buildings.

Medway Ports has a number of other interests in the Kent area. This ranges from agricultural land, orchid farms, small islands and industrial buildings.

Location

Located in South East England, both Sheerness and Chatham have excellent motorway links being in close proximity to the M2,M20 and M25.

Both Sheerness and Chatham have their own railway station which offer regular servies into London.

Restrictions

  •  Strict security on site due to International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS).
  • Filming cannot interfere with the day to day running of the port.
